The Voice of PCW
By Ring Announcer Brian
I love Summit, IL. At the American Legion hall weve had some of the greatest moments in our companys history. True story, my second show ever, after having announced only two matches previously, was all on my own after my partner, Mr. PCW, got sick. Talk about being thrown to the wolves.
Ive compiled a brief list of what I think are the top five moments on PCW in Summit. These shows have always been full of surprises and some over the top hardcore action. Theres just something about that hall that brings out the best in us. Is it the location? The crowds? Ah, whom I kidding? Its probably the bar.
Top 5 Moments in Summit
5. Botch debuts
The previous week the 3 Rings reformed around Grin, Lethal Lee and Machine. But there was still a piece of the puzzle missing. Azrael, eventually to be re-christened James Thornhill, was in the ring waiting for his match with Machine when the Ringmaster ordered the lights darkened. This was his modus opperandi at the last show when Machine made his debut. When the lights came up there in his red face paint glory was Botch. He proceeded to debut the Concussion Bomb in PCW on Azrael. This was followed by a series of double teams from Botch and Machine, ending in a frog splash and Senton Bomb combo. Without a doubt, the Gravediggers were here.
4. Tony Rican vs. Val Fuego Roacho (anything goes match)
Tony Rican made his debut in Summit, but it was at our most recent show that he made his name. At a bachlorette party for Roachos fiancée Tony was the entertainment giving her a lap dance that enraged the insectile luchadore. Feuding for months the pair finally met up in an Anything Goes match at Summit. Everything from chairs, garbage cans, handcuffs and a ladder covered in barbed wire made their way into the ring. After the two men beat each other stupid, the match ended when a dazed Tony Rican managed to roll out of the way of Roachos patented inverted-450 degree splash and hit a moonsault of his own. These two cruiserweights raised the bar on high impact brutality that night finally putting an end to their rivalry.
3.Ego summersaults off the balcony
Egotistico Fantastico was defending his Cruiserweight title against the maniacal Lethal Lee at the beginning of a feud that would eventually see Lee win the belt. When Ego had Lee stunned he appeared to run backstage. No one could know what he was planning. As security picked Lee up, Ego appeared at the top of the balcony in the Legion Hall. Climbing on top of the wall that ran adjacent to the staircase leading to the second level, Ego launched himself from a good twelve-feet in the air onto Lee below risking his life to take down the man who came Straight from Hell.
2. Jimmy Blaze is retired from PCW
Nobody thought that it could happen. Jimmy Blaze was the first Royal Crown winner, holding every title any man could in PCW. That night, the Chicago Connection, wanted Sacrifice fired. They booked the two men in a Loser Leaves match. Jimmy evoked his classic catch phrase, I pinned Sandman; 6/23/01 to remind the crowd of his credentials. Not a smart idea, as the Sandman was in the building that night. After a classic match, the Sandman came out and cracked his kendo stick over Blazes head allowing for a roll up by Sacrifice and the end of Jimmys career in PCW.
1. John Burke gets his head put through a glass window
Perhaps the most brutal Summit match ever was a hardcore Tag Team Tornado match. John Burke and Jarod Priest of the Chicago Connection against the rebellious Coup, embodied in Flyboy TK and Tony Scarpone. Cookie sheets, chairs and garbage cans all found their way into the match. Faces were busted opened and careers ended by injury that night. The most memorable moment of the match is one thats shrouded in legend. Tony Scarpone and the Big Jack fought outside of the Legion Hall as TK and Priest battled among the crowd. Then, the sound of glass shattering echoed through the hall. One of the glass windows had just been broken, by what some say was a bottle thrown from the street traffic. Others say it was a rare case of spontaneous implosion of glass. Let the truth be told: Tony Scarpone took Burkes head and rammed it through the thick glass. Later Priest would pedigree TKs head onto a chair to end the match, but right there was a moment of intensity and violence we would never see matched again.
Ill say it again: I LOVE SUMMIT!
Yet again, my parting thoughts on PCW:
-Rick Rocket and the Butcher. These men have twice gone to count out and DQ. Is there a match made that can hold them.
-Sacrifice is focused and ready to dominate PCW. How will he fair in our heavyweight tournament?
-Southern Comforts bad, new attitude has gotten them their first major tag team win. Last Rebel and Mark Brash could be great, IF theyd ditch the mean streak and about 230 pounds of crap named the S(c)hnog.
-Golden Boy Mike Horning is turning into THE name to watch in PCWs cruiserweight division.
-New Champions across the board. Were in a rebuilding phase right now, but anyone who counts PCW out is a fool.
