The Crimefighter Interviews Stumpy
The Rap Sheet of Stumpy
11/22/2005
The views expressed by Mad Conservative Crimefighter and his guest do not reflect the views of any wrestling company. I've been on the lookout for new organizations opening in the state of Illinois, and recently I came across the announcement of Evil Mindz Wrestling and their two night deathmatch tournament. Knowing how these type of tournaments get, and one of them being shutdown midway through in IWA Deep South recently, I started conversing with one of the participants to find out why he would enter such a thing. I pretty much didn't know a lot about his prior experiences in the ring having only seen him in three matches, but after learning a few things he wanted me to do a full interview with him so tonight I present an interview with Stumpy!
UPDATE: Okay, some things are gonna need a little clarity. The WWE camp and tryout mentioned was in Whitewater, WI in October of 2003, hosted by the NAWF and scouted by Dr. Tom Prichard. The TNA tryout was in Nashville, TN hosted by Bert Prentice of USA Championship Wrestling in "The Asylum" and scouted by Jeremy Borash. As for his problems with Randy Ricci, he admited to what he is being accused of and is in the process of getting those issues settled. He did mention that he wasn't on good terms with him in the interview.
CF: If elected, how do you best represent Cedar & Louisa counties in Illinois?
ST: With the power of the SHAA.
CF: The what?
ST: The SHAA! Justin Kage and Hak Meyes are the kinds of the SHAA.
CF: And SHAA stands for?
ST: The sound they make when they punch someone. For being a mark you don't know much.
CF: The counties are in IOWA but I won't razz you about it. Mystery guest please introduce yourself to the readers.
ST: The One and Only Indy Star Stumpy.
CF: Tell me a little about the origins of how you became Stumpy...how you got the name.
ST: Ah well I was born on a warm and moist day in July of '85 and then in oh lets say April of '96 or '97 I was riding a 4-wheeler and hit a stump on it. Everyone called me Stumpy from then on. So yes Stumpy is my real nickname. My lettermen jacket from school has it on there. My first show ever I was just helpin with the ring and I was told I had the opener about a hour before. Then about 20 mins before bell time they asked for a name and I said I will wrestle under my real nickname once and change it but my trainer who also ran shows liked the name or something so from then on I was Stumpy.
CF: So how did you decide you wanted to be a professional wrestler?
ST: It's what I wanted to do since I was 3 and it never changed.
CF: Well let's look at when you were three, what was your first memory that hooked you to wrestling?
ST: I remember skipping church with my dad and watchin Sunday morning wrestling but I think Hulk Hogan really was my first wrestling hero.
CF: When you were old enough to start training to wrestle, who did you hook up with first?
ST: When I turned 17 in July of 02 I e-mailed just about every show in the Chicago area and then in November I saw a NAWF show in Rockford. I got a flyer about their school and then about a month later I said lets do this and I called Rockin Randy and started training on Dec 26 02. I am trained by Rockin Randy Ricci.
CF: What were your impressions of him as a trainer?
ST: He was ****in great. He has people who are players in this biz in all weight classes. He was patient with me and he saw I wanted it and made me work for it but never once made me feel like ****. Even though me and Randy are not on good terms anymore I still would suggest his school to anyone his track record speaks for itself he puts out great talent.
CF: After leaving NAWF, you hooked up I believe with NGW?
ST: Umm while I was workin for NAWF I also worked for: MSPW, ACW-NWA, MMW, BCW, USA CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING in Nashville, Tennessee, NFW, I am sure I am missin 1 or 2 maybe but I worked alot of places.
CF: Out of that list, where have you spent the most time?
ST: ACW-NWA,NAWF but I have worked the most shows for NGW but I been considered a part of the ACW roster since July of '03.
CF: What were some of your higher profile matches on the indy circuit?
ST: Working Ryan Wilson or "Trytan" of TNA fame, working with Abduallah the Butcher, Last Man Standin vs Busty Loads "pre-main of Ken Kennedy's" last indy show. Working Kasey James at the TNA Asylum "as well as Ryan Wilson" Kasey had a hand in my training and he just got signed by WWE.
CF: You wrestled Abduallah, the man is like in his mid 60s, how did that match come about and go?
ST: Good match I more like managed but I did hit some moves on him and he forked me.
CF: In the feds you currently wrestle in, where is Stumpy involved in feuds, rivalies, and championship pursuits?
ST: Umm I am in the title hunt in NGW, Me and my "brother" Busty still have heat in ACW.
CF: You like won the NGW title but dropped it ten minutes later, what happened there?
ST: I hit the Better than Hell on Chris Hazard after he had hit me with a illegal object. When I was making the pin he put the object in my singlet and I got the title handed to me and the crowd went apes***. Hazard said I hit him and the match was restarted and he hit the gore.
CF: In ACW, which is now NWA Wisconsin, what's the deal with Busty Loads?
ST: What you mean he is my brother and he is jealous of me and my good looks. [Busty Loads is a.k.a. Peter B. Beautiful]
CF: Coming next month, you are entering your first deathmatch tournament in the newly formed Evil Mindz Wrestling out in the Quad Cities. How did this come about and what motivated you to enter?
ST: I was asked by one of the other wrestlers if I would do it I said ok and I have always wanted to do something like this just once.
CF: Knowing how dangerous these tournaments get, and seeing some of the more infamous deathmatch veterans in the lineup, do you know what you are getting into?
ST: Yeah I know what I am getting into. I grew up watching some of these guys and have the most respect for them but yes I know what I am getting into.
CF: You had some sort of influences on wanting to wrestle this kinda of hardcore style, can you tell us about them?
ST: I am a huge Foley mark and I grew up falling into the loving deathmatch trap of the late 90's but I got out of that but I always still wanted to do one.
CF: What were your other influences in wrestling?
ST: I am a huge Von Erich and Freebirds mark. I love Terry Gordy. Brusier Brody. Any wrestler who doesn't put Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan on their list is a liar. I was huge on Demolition. As I got older and finally saw some ECW I loved Balls Mahoney "one of the nicest ****ing guys ever" Steve Corino, Axl Rotten. Amish Roadkill. The heat the Dudleys could get off a crowd drew me to them in ECW.
CF: How often have you done hardcore matches?
ST: I have done about 5-6 hardcore matches and had a good last man standing with Busty back in Febuary. I wanna be known as a guy who went out there and did it all and did it good.
CF: Is there anything you wouldn't want to do in this deathmatch tournament?
ST: For some reason panes of glass are kinda freaky to me but when it came time I would do it.
CF: What about light tubes, stapling money, and fireballs?
ST: Nah I am ok with all that.
CF: Have you ever used the Stump Puller submission hold?
ST: No, not too much of a submission wrestler.
CF: But if you used it...wouldn't that identify with your nickname?
ST: I do have a finisher called Nightmare on Stump Grove Road. [D-Lo Brown's Sky-Hi]
CF: Not quite to name association but this going to be kinda the lead-in to that...let's touch upon the organizations you worked for and some of the more memorable moments you had...starting with NAWF.
ST: Ah lets see the Ironwood show all the wrestlers who got Hardees got the ****s and Randy hitting the barrel on the way home. Working out in front of Tom Prichard when he was talent relations for WWE. The Belvidere show and workin Tweek and Damian and all the guys were good and we all busted our butts every show. V.S. Tweek "Palatine Illinois May 03". vs. Kevin Krueger "Kenosha Wisconsin Oct 03" 2 weeks after he was on Velocity. Me and Wisconsin Chicken v.s. Tweek and Damian "Palatine 03". Tasty Travis Lee "Wausau Wisconsin Dec 03". Chandler McClure x2 "Belvidere Illinois and Whitewater Wisconsin".
CF: MSPW
ST: My first show ever was for MSPW. Wrestling Chandler and Marco Style Cordova. Taggin with Adam Evans.
CF: ACW-NWA (or NWA Wisconsin as its called now.)
ST: It's a 4 hour drive for me to get to Green Bay and day after Thanksgiving 03 I was booked on a 7pm show at 2 pm and made it by 5:30. It was in middle of a blizzard. Guys who lived 30 mins from the show were no showing cuz of snow but I made it. The aftershow party in Dec. of '03 and Working XXXPlict Content and bleeding for the first time, last man standing and workin with Abdullah.
CF: Midwestern Mayhem Wrestling
ST: The whole first show was a blast. Me and Busty worked Tommy Courageous and Sonny Beach. I met Bart in Nashville in July of 03--he was like a road agent for Bert Prentice and USA Championship Wrestling--he came to Oshkosh in November. I was in the locker room and in comes Bart already in gear wearing purple trunks with smiley faces on the front. I come to find out he walked across the biggest street in town and almost got hit by a couple cars. SO we are sitting there for about a hour I am wearing a shirt that says Stumpy on it and he is staring at me. Finally he says "Stumpy how the **** are ya" and he goes into how we meet and he tells everyone how I was scared workin Humongous down in Nashville. He goes after two refs and then Adrian Serrano "UFC FIGHTER/Wrestler" tells Bart to calm down and almost kicks his arse and then Bart is sent to his hotel room. At the after party where all the boys are having a good time, Bart is just sitting at the bar with salsa on the bar in front of him and he is dippin hischips in it. Some of the boys decide its time for Bart to pay so first a ref/manager from Green Bay pees in a cup and gives it to him and he downs it in one drink doesn't flinch and then someone else who I forget pees in a cup and gives it to him, same thing again.
CF: Brew City Wrestling
ST: Only did like three shows but worked two stiff matches with Peter B. Beautiful.
CF: USA Championship Wrestling
ST: I worked 2 Tv Tapings for them meet alot of the TNA guys. First time rode down with Arson, Chandler McClure and CHIP sKIPUMS 2nd time it was me and chandler and Justin Kage.
CF: National Federation of Wrestling
ST: HAHA Met Balls Mahoney and was tag champ with Busty Loads. Everyone says this fed is like the day you had a sub teacher in high school.
CF: NGW
ST: A lot of great memories and hopefully still alot to come.
CF: You say you had tryouts for WWE and TNA?
ST: Yeah TNA in July of 03 and WWE in October of 03. TNA was ok they had a idea I never heard about again and in WWE I was young and fat and mainly Prichard liked my match. I had that TNA thing with Ryan Wilson and then I worked ummmmmm Andy Anderson in WWE. I think it was a camp during the day and then a show at night and Daivari was on the show.
CF: Okay, before I do general name association, lets run through your thoughts on the tournament contenders. Starting with the infamous and often in trouble with the law over his actions in the ring...New Jack.
ST: New Jack is a bad motherfucker and I respect him for what he has done in this business and he does what he does well.
CF: Ian Rotten.
ST: Ian is a great all rounded in my eyes I have seen him bleed with the best and wrestle and strike with the best. I saw him and Samoa Joe have a great match and I have seen Ian vs PBB and the infamous Taipei deathmatch.
CF: Peter B. Beautiful ... and what happened in that infamous Taipei deathmatch?
ST: The Taipei was between Ian and Axl back in ECW. PBB is another guy who has been around when it comes to deathmatches.
CF: Considering the bad blood between them for various reasons, how likely is it that they made tangle up again in THIS tournament?
ST: Who knows I know I would like to see a rematch from 01.
CF: Corporal Robinson
ST: Corp is another guy who has been around when it comes to Deathmatches and he is a legit tough guy and not someone I want to meet in a dark alley.
CF: Rude Boy
ST: I haven't seen much of Rude Boy but I seen a match him and Sinnister did in the Quad Cities that was good.
CF: Sinnister
ST: Me and Sinnister have crossed paths a couple time in NGW and he is a tough sum b**** too.
CF: JC Bailey
ST: I think JC Bailey is one of the most underrated workers all around hardcore or high flyin'.
CF: Axis
ST: Him and Sinnister had some ****in hard hitting bloody wars.
CF: Karnage
ST: I don't know much about him but I hear he is one of the JCW guys so I am sure he is a pretty badarse guy.
CF: One Ton Hillbilly
ST: Same as Karnage.
CF: Machine
ST: Machine has been through some wars himself and he is a great wrestler one of the best big guys around.
CF: Nathan Ironsides
ST: I don't know anything about him.
CF: Burt Anderson
ST: Same I know he is an SCW guy.
CF: And finally Ryan Phoenix.
ST: Ah me and Phoenix go back and I think he should do well in the tounrey. He could surprise everyone and win the whole thing.
CF: Apart from the one mystery guy that's everyone. If you could pick the 16th guy yourself, who would it be?
ST: Homeless Jimmy!
CF: Well let's go into general name association now. Start with IWA Mid-South.
ST: Never worked there I would jump at the chance too but I been to a couple shows and they put out a great ****in product.
CF: Scott County Wrestling
ST: SCW I never worked there and they have had some guys come out of there and have some success on the indys so they're doing something right.
CF: WCPW
ST: WCPW has had some good talent come through with Chris Daniels and Jayson Reign. I have never seen a show of there so I can't really say anything.
CF: AAW
ST: Haven't seen a show but from what I hear they are turning out alot of good matches.
CF: Powerhouse Wrestling Inc.
ST: Haven't seen a show in awhile but it used to be pretty ****ty but they always had a few guys who you could tell were going to do something in this biz someday.
CF: The Chicago Wrestling Scene
ST: A lot of talented guys. There is alot of politics and BS in the Chicago scene.
CF: The St. Louis Wrestling Scene
ST: I know nothing about it.
CF: The Milwaukee wrestling scene.
ST: Alot of good guys. I think Dysfunction and Dinn T Moore are two of the best on the indys. Alot harder hitting style than Chicago it seems.
CF: Eddie Guerrero
ST: RIP He was a great wrestler and he was a inspiration to alot of people.
CF: Chris Benoit
ST: Great wrestler and worked for everything he has every had.
CF: Hulk Hogan
ST: Who doesn't love Hulk he is the reason 50% "or more" of people are fans of wrestling.
CF: Kurt Angle
ST: Came a long way and made a great switch from amateur.
CF: Shawn Michaels
ST: One of my idols in wrestling and he is a true living legend.
CF: AJ Styles
ST: ****in amazing.
CF: Christopher Daniels
ST: See above.
CF: Samoa Joe
ST: Best in the world right now in my eyes. ****ing amazing I think WWE was ****in stupid for not signing this guy.
CF: Jimmy Jacobs
ST: Has come a long way I remember seeing him work for Tim Lyle three years ago.
CF: Dr. Timothy Lyle
ST: I was gonna train with Tim but I decided not to. Always wanted to work one show for him just to show him what ever became of me.
CF: He seems to be a guy who acts like he knows who's yarder from "trained professional" without ever seeing the person he's judging.
ST: Yeah and he is a yarder.
CF: Tim Lyle is a yarder himself?
ST: Yeah he is half-arse trained himself.
CF: Delicious Danny Scott
ST: Me and him had heat for awhile but its been 2 yrs and its water under the bridge he has a good thing with MSPW.
CF: TripC Cory Carter
ST: Gone to battle with him a couple times he is pretty solid in the ring.
CF: No Longer Homeless Pedro
ST: Pedro is a good guy.
CF: What do you think of him as majority owner in NGW? Will he be able to get attendance up?
ST: If he gets English mastered I think he can do it and he has good ideas I was told.
CF: Apocolypse
ST: If there ever was a NGW legend he would be the meaning of the word.
CF: Justin MacIntyre
ST: Me and Mac have tangled a couple times and he has what it takes to be a main player in this biz.
CF: Dennis Devine
ST: Ah yes the gay one. Dennis is Dennis.
CF: He seems to think beating you in a match will get him the NGW title...instead of outright challenging Hazard. What's his deal?
ST: Who knows.
CF: You've been having your problems with him though and I see he's gotten the services of one Colin McDowell.
ST: Yeah Bobby Hill.
CF: Chris Hazard
ST: I beat him and he cheated thats all I gotta say.
CF: Is there anyone you want to shoot on right now?
ST: Nah. I am a non violent person.
CF: We've talked for quite a few hours, anything you want to say in closing?
ST: Just wanna say thanks for reading this and support your local indys.
