Joey Eastman vs. PL Myers & PCW
From Sonny Rogers:
I'm strictly going yo give an ' old school" thought or 2 on these issues even though i like Joey Eatman
on a personal level i sometimes question his comments - opinions on radio and in text i only state this
because i never once on a radio show, tv interview, or in text on public forums totally $hitcan a company
and or talent and on a few rare occassions when i let my emotions get the best of me i soon regretted
what i said or put in text.
PCW is a company that i started years ago and i'll be the first to admit that i have a few issues with
a few people @ PCW @ present time but PCW rolled on without Sonny Rogers and though i never expect to
ever work with the current PCW ever again i respect the fact that the company has endured and is not
in the Chicago wrestling company boneyard.
I have met and associated with so many great people in the 25 plus years i spent in the biz but by the
same token i have met my share of arse holes as well so with that being said i take things for what it is.
From Steve Cain:
And on that point I agree with Sonny whole-heartedly. There are PCW guys that, due to my past
experience with them, I would not socilaize with. Work with them in the ring, yes, outside of that, no.
However, the PCW guys that work with me at WWA are very good and do some good stuff and I would be very
happy to hang out with them after a show. One can not and should not generalize a group like seems to
happen to PCW. Even though we have not seen each other in a while I still consider P.L. Myers a friend.
He worked for me several years ago and has a passion for this business that few people do.
His expectations of his own place in the business have been, as far as I have seen, realistic.
He strives to promote his company and his product and he does it well.
Joey is his own person and Joey is going to say and do what Joey is going to say and do.
He is a freind of mine and has been since the days he and Herro would come to the WWZ shows,
which means I'm going to call him out on stuff when I feel he is wrong and he knows it.
From CDK:
I said that?!?!?!?! I must have really been wasted that day.
We need to do that again.
Hey Brian and whoever else from PCW that posts on this board, let me know when your show is in February,
book it near a bar, and we'll bring the mother of all drunken posses. Oh yeah, Fuzion needs to be in the main event.
Just not against Rick Knight, please?
Here's a crappy PCW memory for you guys. I had just moved to Chicago from Tampa, and me, my girlfriend and her
friend all went to Hot Topic at Stratford Mall in Bloomingdale. We went in and of course, one of their helpful
clerks greeted us at the door. He saw I was wearing a TNA shirt
(the American one where it says "Total Nonstop American" on the back) and he mentioned that he's actually a
wrestler and was wrestling that coming weekend in Batavia, and you could get in with two cans of food.
So I was like hey, cool! Wow, what an interesting show. Johnny Mac v. Sammy Hart. Enough said.
We had front row seats, and regretted it later, as the same wrestler we saw at Hot Topic got thrown out and
landed right on my gf's lap. A raffle for Rick Knight's tights (Seriously?) had everyone throwing them back in.
Sacrifice and Jarod Priest had a match which was actually pretty decent, and I got laid by Sensational Sascha.
What happened to her by the way?
And for the record, the Hot Topic wrestler I mentioned was none other than "The Last Rebel" Chris Hamilton.
I fully blame him for my first exposure to PCW. Thanks a lot, jerkass
From Joey Eastman:
The scene is not as strong as it's weakest link. that is implying that the scene is one giant team working together.
If you feel that way you are truly naive. This scene will never be that. With that said PCW draws 1,000 fans to a
show once a year with a major name signing autographs. Why not run your biggest show of the year with no name signing
autographs and see if you draw 1,000 people. I doubt it. Maybe instead of putting Kurt Angle on top of the flyer,
put PL on top of the flyer and see if 1,000 people show up to see him "manage". I know he is involved in the top angle
at PCW, so I'm willing to bet a 10 man match featuring PL would draw 1,000 people if PCW is putting that much faith
in the guy.
As for Sonny & Steve. Yup, I may be a little bit of a douche bag, and I'm the first one to admit it.
You both know me well enough to know that I always speak my mind, and face the concequences for it when it is needed.
I understand where both of you are coming from, but I won't bite my tounge for anyone.
The PL debate would be a watse of time, and I think anyone with half a brain would see it as being a train wreck.
I'm very happy working for AAW and Shimmer in Chicago. I will occasionally work for RPW, and that is it.
I have far too much going on outside of the Chicago scene to worry about people getting pissed off
because I think people are the pudding shits. I'm sorry you didn't like my comments, however they are just that,
my comments and my opinions. 75 people every month disagree with me when they purchase a ticket to a PCW show.
Have I mentioned that I like wrestling??
From Dan (who became ring announcer for WAR):
Joey Eastman, I actually do not work for PCW. Do I know people at PCW? Yes I do.
Do you remember managing back on May 5th in Streamwood? That was the first time I saw you with
The Phoenix Twins and then I saw you back there again in September. In May, at the intermission of NWA Midwest,
I met PL Myers. I overheard him talking about PCW with a security agent and then introduced myself.
I had told him that I saw the first PCW show in 2001 that featured The Sandman and I can tell you he is,
for better or worse, his own man. We hooked up a couple times in Elmhurst and talked wrestling for hours at a time.
He let me borrow his Heroes of World Class DVD after I brought up that I started watching wrestling because of the
Von Erichs. PL has as much class as anyone could hope for in the wrestling business.
When I saw NWA Midwest back In May, it marked the first time since PCW in 2001 that I saw an independent card.
I went to that Midwest show because WM 23 was terrible and wanted to give all you people a chance.
I have also now been to WAR (the fmr. AWA Slam) twice and been real pleased over those experiences.
I really want to check out AAW, IWA, and WCPW. Windy City was the independent that I watched in the '90's
and its unfortunate that they don't come out west anymore. You see, I am a wrestling fan 25 years and I am
willing to try anything once. Next week, I will check out LwA near St. Louis and see a favorite of mine, Ms. Chif.
I hear they party hard down there with those dollar drafts, so it ought to be real fun.
The extended weather outlook is promising. I am not your enemy, Joey. We don't have to be.
In a nut shell, that was what my return to the indies looked like.
From Brian 76 (of PCW):
February 16th were back at the American Legion Hall in Summit (There's a bar in the building)
And we'll be hosting the fourth annual Powerhorse tournament. That means for ten bucks you get to see
about sixteen matches. Fuzion is in the tournament, so whether or not he gets to the finals depends on
who he has to beat.
As for the whole PL thing let me just say this. For five years I've seen so many people put forward the
idea that PCW is basically the PL Myers show. It isn't. There are a whole bunch of people behind the scenes
making decisions, including PL and myself. Paul is passionate about his job and wrestling in general and he's
an asset to PCW, but it will always be a group effort.
As for "PCW is crap" thats something else I've been hearing for five years.
We run a very specific family-friendly show. We don't do the high-flying, advanced technical style
that IWA and AAW do, so we're not going to draw the twenty-something crowd.
We're fine with that, there's enough room on the scene for more than one type of wrestling.
The Joey Eastmans of the world can continue to call us names and all I can say is that names will never hurt us.
From Sonny Rogers:
I know that i have made this analogy before, all of the Chicago area wrestling companys are no different
then what u choose to listen to on the car raduo dial be it AM, FM, XM, SIRIUS what the masses choose to
listen to be it talk radio, hip hop, all news, rock, lite rock, jazz, oldies, etc. sometimes this forum
comes off like an infomercial for AAW, ROH, IWA- MIDSOUTH, NWA MIDWEST and thats ok if the Joey Eastmans,
Larry Sternshein, Ben Jordan, and Eddie Chumans of the world and others preach there brand of
professional wrestling it doesn't make them evil heinous people they just have to be reminded that we live
in a country where we all have a freedom of choice.
I n responde to Joey Eastmans reply to what i stated yesterday is that i accept what he says but i do remember
that there was a fundraising show last year in which every Chicago area company was offered to be a part of and
PCW had some talent on that event though POWW declined the invite to the event for whatever reason, from what i
understand the event was a financial success and i remember Joey thanking every Chicago area company and talent
who appeared @ the event and then a year or so later to lambast a few companys just doesn't seem right
but oh well to each his own i guess.
Not top put myself over but a year and a half ago when i was on Nick H. show for my retirement show i was kind
of flustered over a local talent who the week b4 my appearance on the show went on a 5 minute rant about this
company sucks, that company sucks, this guy sucks i'm the greatest and so on, Nick offered me the same 5 minutes
to reburrle what this guy had to say but i declined because i simply did want to go down to this mans level
because it was simply the way i was brought into the biz in regarss to erhics, protocal and stuff like that.
I still comsider Nick H. my bud and i hold nothing against him for it.
Happy 2008 all !!
From Joey Eastman:
First off, please let's get off of Rumble Radio for not giving PCW any pub. I know they plug every show,
but I feel it is the job of the promoter to get with Pete and get the publicity going.
The guys from Rumble Radio should not go out and look for people to be on their show.
This is free publicity for the companies of Chicago, and the promoters need to take advantage of the
service that Rumble Radio offers. As far as I know, The guys from WXAV pay for their tickets to shows.
They are fans. To lambast them because they don't want to talk about a company on their show when the
promoters do not contact them is silly. Don't blame Rumble Radio for it, blame the promoters.
I don't think they have ever said no to any company
Sonny, you are 100% correct in saying that EVERY company was contact and every wrestler that did participate
in the show was responsible for making it a huge success. Every person donated their time and energy,
and we were able to raise a shit load of money. That never meant I enjoyed the wrestling
of any one certain company. Everyone was given specific direction on what to do on the show, and they did it.
I totally understand where your coming from though.
From Sonny Rogers:
